Groundbreaking planned Wednesday for
first GARVEE-funded project on U.S. 95

Members of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe will join Idaho Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter, Idaho Transportation Board chairman Darrell Manning, board member Jim Coleman and other special guests Wednesday when ITD breaks ground on a major U.S. 95 project north of Worley.

A ceremony marking the beginning of the first District 1 project funded by GARVEE (Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle) bonds is scheduled for 11 a.m. at a site near the Coeur d’Alene Casino and Hotel, about three miles north of Worley.

A reception, sponsored by the tribe, will follow at the renowned Circling Raven Golf Club near the casino and hotel.

Guests who plan to attend are asked to park in the golf club parking lot and take a shuttle to the groundbreaking. No parking is available at the groundbreaking site. The shuttle service will begin operating at 10:30 a.m.

Known as U.S. 95 Worley North, the project will include more than four miles of divided, four-lane highway north of Worley and construction of a new interchange at the heavily traveled junction of U.S. 95 and Idaho 58.

The construction project begins about one-half mile outside the western city limits of Worley and extends about one mile beyond the U.S. 95/Idaho 58 junction. It is part of the U.S. 95 Worley to Setters corridor that represents a 21-mile construction/realignment effort from Worley to the Mica Creek Bridge.

ITD worked closely with regulatory agencies, the tribe and the public to design the U.S. 95, Worley North project that addresses the transportation needs in the busy corridor and minimizes impacts on the environment.

U.S. 95, Worley North is part of an ambitious, long-range plan by the transportation department to improve safety on Idaho’s only north-south state highway by expanding it to four lanes from Lewiston to Coeur d’Alene.
