Ceremony to formally introduce
new Safe Routes to School program

 

Idaho’s First Lady Lori Otter will join school and law enforcement officials to formally introduce the state’s new Safe Routes to School program Friday in an afternoon ceremony at Trail Wind Elementary School.

Otter will be among six speakers who will offer support to the new federally funded program that encourages children to walk or bicycle to and from school. Safe Routes to School reimburses schools, communities and other organizations that improve walking and bicycling routes for school children.

Other speakers scheduled for the 1:30 p.m. kickoff event include:

  • Greg Moon, chief of the Weiser Police Department, representing the Idaho Chief’s of Police Association
  • Dr. Jerry Hirschfeld, a child safety advocate and administrator of St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital in Boise
  • The Federal Highway Administration’s Assistant Division Administrator Renee Sigel
  • Idaho Transportation Department, and
  • Boise School District (tentative)
