Relax — you're among the region's safest drivers

If you live and drive in the Boise area you’re less likely to have a motor vehicle crash than your counterparts in other metropolitan areas in the western U.S.

Statistics released this week by Allstate Insurance Company reveal that Boise-area drivers are the safest in the company’s Northwest Region and ranked 14th nationally. The insurance company reports that Treasure Valley drivers are 18.1 percent less likely (when compared to the national average) to be involved in a crash than other drivers in the West.

And they can expect, on average, to drive more than 12 years without a collision.

Drivers in the Eugene, Ore., area were ranked second-safest in the region and 17th nationally. Rounding out the top 10 in Allstate’s Northwest region are:

The region includes Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

For the second straight year, Sioux Falls, S.D., drivers were crowned safest in the nation. They are 27.2 percent less likely to be involved in a crash compared to the national average and their span between incidents averages 13.7 years. The national average is about 10 years between crashes.

Fort Collins, Colo., was second nationally, followed by: Flint, Mich.; Warren, Mich.; Huntsville, Ala.; Knoxville, Tenn.; Chattanooga, Tenn.; Colorado Springs, Colo.; Milwaukee, Wisc.; and Des Moines, Iowa.
