Conditions increase fire activity in Idaho

Update: Wildland fire activity picked up in Montana after some thunderstorms passed through yesterday. Six new large fires were reported. Windy conditions are predicted to increase fire activity in Montana and Idaho today.

Weather Discussion: Dry and windy conditions with some thunderstorms are predicted for Idaho and Montana. Dry, gusty winds are expected for portions of the Great Basin, Wyoming, and the Dakotas. California is also expecting dry weather today.

Bridge (Clearwater National Forest):19,950 acres at zero percent contained. This fire is 45 miles southwest of Missoula. Minimal fire growth was reported.

Landmark Complex (Boise National Forest): 45,648 acres at 29 percent contained. This complex consists of two fires. Moderate fire behavior was reported. Stibnite is currently threatened.

Middle Fork Complex (Boise National Forest): 17,220 acres at 82 percent contained. This complex of five fires is 15 miles northeast of Garden Valley. Torching and spotting were reported.

Poe Cabin (Craig Mountain Area Office, Idaho Department of Lands): 57,606 acres at 84 percent contained. This fire is 23 miles southwest of Grangeville. Active crowning and spotting were reported.

Cascade Complex (Boise National Forest): 34,813 acres at 20 percent contained. This complex is 16 miles northeast of Cascade. Extreme fire behavior was reported. The Warm Lake community is threatened. Evacuations are in order and the Warm Lake Highway is closed. The Landmark Complex was separated from the Cascade Complex.

East Zone Complex (Payette National Forest): 80,852 acres at 15 percent contained. This complex is made up of three fires. This fire is 25 miles northeast of McCall and is burning in timber and grass. Active fire behavior was observed. Secesh and Warren as well as historic sites and bridges remain threatened. The Raines fire is now included in this complex.

Shower Bath (Salmon-Challis National Forest): 6,340 acres at zero percent contained. The fire is located 18 miles northwest of Challis. Active fire behavior was reported. Structures are threatened.

Chimney Complex (Craig Mountain Area Office, Idaho Department of Lands): 51,000 acres at 95 percent contained. This fires is 19 miles south of Lewiston and is burning in tall grass, brush and timber. Smoldering, torching, and creeping were reported.

Rattlesnake (Nez Perce National Forest): 55,819 acres at zero percent contained. This fire is 25 miles south of Elk City and is burning in timber. Active surface fire with fire runs and torching was observed. Comstock remains threatened.

NEW Bear (Caribou-Targee National Forest): 100 acres. This WFU is 38 miles southeast of Idaho Falls. Wind driven fire behavior was reported.

WFU: Trapper Ridge (Boise National Forest): 16,831 acres. This WFU is 28 miles northeast of Idaho City. Active ground fire was reported.
