Castle Rock fire worries Ketchum residents A dozen wildfires continue to burn in central and south-central Idaho, charring nearly 415,000 acres as of Thursday morning. The fire drawing the most attention is the Castle Rock fire in the Sawtooth National Forest, approximately eight miles west of Ketchum. As of Thursday morning, the fire had consumed about 15,600 acres of timber and was threatening Ketchum in the Sun Valley area. Evacuations are in effect for some local residents. A town hall meeting was scheduled for today (Friday, Aug. 24) at 6 p.m. to inform residents of the latest conditions. The meeting will be at Hemingway Elementary School. The fire was reported 9 percent contained Thursday. Idaho’s largest active fire is the Cascade Complex fire in the Boise National Forest, burning 211,353 acres with 0 percent containment. The fire is about 16 miles northeast of Cascade. Warm Lake and Paradise Valley communities are threatened, and road closures and evacuations are in effect. The East Zone Complex fire reached 203,569 acres with 10 percent containment. Is is composed of three fires burning about 25 miles northeast of McCall. The communities of Secesh, Warren and South Fork remain threatened, and evacuations are in effect. For
