Farewell to a friend

Reprinted from District 1 News
Jim Roletto began working for ITD on May 21, 1984. He was hired on as an hourly worker in Wallace. On his first day of work, he managed to wreck his boss’s vehicle when the crew he was working on asked the “new guy” to go get them drinks. It’s a great story… ask Jim to tell you. It’s too long for this newsletter.

Jim then entered the EIT program and spent three years in District 1 before moving on to Boise for the last year of the program. After finishing the EIT program, he went back to Wallace as a project engineer in the Wallace Residency. He worked on the Viaduct Project, which at that time was the mos expensive advertised project the state had ever done.

In 1989, Jim went to District 2 where he spent two years as the Materials Engineer. Then it was back to Boise to work in Contract Administration as a Construction Associate.

In 1992, he transferred to Sandpoint as the Resident Engineer, and stayed there for eight years. He then took the position he is currently leaving as the Project Development Engineer.
When asked if he had any parting words, he said, “The department’s greatest strength is its people, and they are who will be missed.”
