ITD to showcase employment needs in career fair

The Idaho Transportation Department will join about two dozen regional law enforcement and public safety organizations Saturday to showcase career options and help the public become familiar with their employment needs.

ITD will be among the public organizations staffing tables in front of the Ada County/Boise City Police building at 7200 Barrister St., east of the Boise Towne Square mall. Representatives from Human Resource Services will staff ITD’s booth from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Organizers of the career fair expect to reach a record number of job seekers this year. More than 750 individuals visited the career fair when it was held last year at the Idaho State Police headquarters in Meridian.

ITD will display a new Derek Digger – a truck equipped with a boom and bucket enabling worker access to high locations – and an Incident Response truck that provides motorist assistance along the interstate during commute hours.

Michelle George of the Human Resources staff is coordinating the department’s participation in the event. To draw attention to the career fair, ITD participated in an early morning remote weather broadcast with Larry Gebert on Boise television station KTVB this morning (Sept. 7).

Mary Hunter, of the Office of Highway Operations and Safety, Engineer-in-Training Tisha Hyde and Steve Grant of ITD’s communications office attended the remote broadcast from the public safety building between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m.

Three representatives from ITD’s Human Resource Services office will staff ITD’s booth. People interested in careers at ITD can receive job applications and visit with department staff.

ITD’s participation in the career fair reflects the changing nature of transportation department employees and the need to market what ITD has to offer for job seekers. Increasingly, ITD employees are recognized as “first responders” because they often are the first to arrive at vehicle crashes, cargo spills and hazardous materials incidents.
