Major Interstate 84 renovations begin

ITD is giving a busy stretch of Interstate 84 a much-needed facelift with a rebuilding project that began this weekend (Sept. 15, 16).

The I-84 East construction project includes several improvements between the Wye Interchange and Eisenman Road.

The first phase, between the Broadway Interchange and the Eisenman Interchange, involves resurfacing 6.1 miles of the interstate. It begins a series of interstate improvements planned for the Treasure Valley through the GARVEE Transportation Program. The program uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to design and construct needed improvements throughout the state in less time than through traditional funding methods.

Traffic changes began near the Eisenman Interchange Sunday evening (Sept. 16) for the I-84 Broadway to Eisenman pavement rehabilitation project.

East- and westbound I-84 was reduced to one lane in each direction at 5 p.m. Sunday between the Gowen and Eisenman interchanges. These lane restrictions will continue until mid-November, when construction stops for winter.

In addition, the I-84 westbound on-ramp at Eisenman Road closed Sunday for approximately three weeks for work near the ramp.

A Sept. 27 dedication ceremony will kick off the GARVEE funded-work. The ceremony is planned for 10 a.m. Sept. 27 on the Eisenman Interchange.

Residents and businesses also are encouraged to attend an Oct. 2 open house at Idaho Ice World (7072 S. Eisenman Rd. in Boise) to learn about upcoming traffic impacts. The open house will run from 4 to 7 p.m.

Western Construction of Boise is the contractor for the $12 million I-84 Broadway to Eisenman pavement rehabilitation project.
