Collaborative, internal effort brings DMV project to close Corporate IT, the Division of Motor Vehicles and county assessors took a unique, collaborative route to reach a milestone in the DMV Modernization Project recently, explains Shannon Barnes, Project Management Office Administrator. The project, which improves services and technical infrastructure at the county licensing offices, included:
During the project, however, project leaders recognized an opportunity to reduce costs and apply savings to other companion projects. “Originally, a vendor was contracted to install the Knowledge Testing kiosks at the cost of $25,000,” Barns says. “DMV saw an opportunity to complete the installation using state staff and requested the assistance of Corporate IT staff and the district coordinators. “Under the leadership of Linda Ford, Richard Holloran and Jeff Carpenter, a partnership and plan were developed. The money that would have been used to pay the vendor was invested in further improvements for the counties.” The savings were used to upgrade wiring that was in bad need of repair. Barnes said the project conclusion was a model of collaboration. It was completed on time and within budget, serves as a “great example of how ITD staff can partner to make a difference and will lead to more county improvements in the months ahead when new printers are installed at county offices." Barnes and her team recently celebrated the completion of this phase of the project with a ceremony at ITD Headquarters in Boise. Published 9-28-07 |
