Board, administration honor employees
for special achievements, years of service

Seven retirees, with a collective 177 years of service to Idaho, were among the ITD employees honored this week during the semi-annual awards ceremony at Headquarters. Matt Moore, administrator of the Division of Planning and Programmingß, presided over the ceremony that was held as part of the transportation board meeting Thursday.

Retirees included John Gibson, Fred Heidt, Leonard Hill, Doyle Pugmire, Mark Richardson, Rosalie Roberts and Gene Wortham, all of whom left the department in the first half of 2007. The seven represented an average of 25.3 years of service, led by Wortham who logged 42 years and Richardson who worked 33 years.

Several special awards also were presented.

Brent Jennings announced First There/First Care awards for Deborah Dorius and Skimintha Nimma who reported and responded to a crash on State Street in front of Headquarters.

Chief Engineer Steve Hutchinson acknowledged the work ITD employees and other partners made in restoring native fish runs to Henrys Lake in eastern Idaho. The project recently received the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) President’s Award for environmental stewardship. Hutchinson presented the award, on behalf of the department and AASHTO, to District 6 representatives Dave Walrath, Ryan Day, Tim Cramer and Karen Hiatt.

Division administrators also announced awards ITD employees received from professional organizations. JV DeThomas (Aeronautics) presented the NASAO Distinguished Service Award to Mark Young and Alan Frew (Motor Vehicles) gave the AAMVA Customer Service Award to David Metcalf.

Sixty-three ITD employees who reached employment milestones also received service awards. Three employees – Forrest Anderson, Steve Hutchinson and Gwendolyn Lough – were the senior members of the group, passing the 35-year mark at ITD.
