Fernandez named Roadway Design Engineer

Nestor Frenandez, who has helped guide Idaho’s largest-ever infrastructure program the past two years, today was named ITD’s new Roadway Design Engineer. He succeeds Damon Allen who left the position to become the District 1 engineer in Coeur d’Alene earlier this year.

Fernandez has served as manager of the GARVEE Program since Sept. 25, 2005. In that capacity he worked closely with ITD’s private partners to move the innovative Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle program forward. Fernandez was promoted to the manager’s position after serving several years as an Engineer Manager 1 (consultant administration) and local roads engineer at Headquarters.

“His strong background in construction design and interaction with consultants makes him uniquely qualified to shape the department’s Roadway Design program as we enter a new and challenging era of Practical Design,” said Loren Thomas, ITD Assistant Chief Engineer – Construction.

“His expertise will be important in project development statewide and in coordinating projects with the Federal Highway Administration.”

Fernandez began his ITD career in 1987 as a Transportation Technician – Senior, testing paving materials in the materials lab. He also assisted with new product research. Fernandez has completed the EIT program and became a staff engineer for District 3 in 1992.

He will assume his new duties Dec. 3.
