ITD adds new phones to help hearing impaired

Telephones to receive incoming calls from members of the public who are hearing impaired and are using a TDD have been installed at Headquarters and district offices.

In addition to the phone that has been located in DMV for some time, others recently were installed at the Headquarters information kiosk and at the reception desk in each district.

These new phones help ITD comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title II requirements to provide equal access for those in the community who are hearing impaired.
Generally if an agency or organization publishes a phone number for the public's use, that agency also must include the appropriate TDD phone number as well.

Divisions, sections or other offices are not required to discard existing documents, brochures, publications or flyers and reprint them with the new numbers. But when ordering reprints of materials, the TDD number should be included.

For HQ, Aeronautics & Public Transportation
For those of who are responsible for publishing information meant for public use, or for having ITD listed in an external directory, or in some other way provide ITD's telephone number to external parties, the following TDD number should be listed:
334-4455

For DMV
Continue to use the existing number listed on publications unless it makes more sense to publish the HQ or a district number.
334-4458

For districts
The districts already have received instructions about publishing TDD phone numbers along with their district contact information. The numbers assigned to phones are provided below in the event that HQ program staff needs the information for publications that include regular district phone numbers.
D1 - 772-8071
D2 - 799-4838
D3 - 334-8918
D4 - 886-7802
D5 - 234-3613
D6 - 745-5614

Anyone with questions about when to use (or not use) these new numbers, should contact Karen Sparkman at 334-8852.
