Winter weather and resulting highway challenges elevated use the past two months of the 511 Traveler Services Web site and telephone system to record levels. Many of the people using the system, introduced in 2005, have recommended changes that ultimately will lead to an even better, more responsive system. Some Web users, responding to the new high bandwidth site introduced last fall, expressed appreciation for the visual enhancements and new options. Their comments follow: Once
again you folks are doing a great job keeping the roads open. Some would
not say so, after the last two days but you folks rock. Also you’re
web site is very informative I love the cameras. Keep up the good work
... I
refer to them often as I get calls from the public asking for road conditions
daily. I wonder especially with road closures if the information could
be updated more frequently. Even if the status of the road remains the
same it is nice to have a fairly current date stamp to indicate that
the conditions are being monitored. The
site is very well put together and very user-friendly. I am having to
look at other nearby states for information as well, and none even compare
to the amount of information I was able to get here. A great integration
with what looks like Google maps is excellent and from what I have seen
seems to work flawlessly. -
- - - - I regularly monitor sites in Washington, Idaho and Montana when planning trips and Idaho’s is the best. It is very easy to use clear and concise. I particularly like the percent grade info shown for the mountain passes – a big help because I drive a big, heavy older van. Again
congratulations and thank you. Please pass it on to everyone. -
- - - - Good
work. -

- - - - Otherwise
the map and its interactions are a great improvement. -
