Board, employees honor colleagues who
have reached career milestones

Idaho Transportation Board member Monte McClure challenged employees to embrace innovation and continue looking for ways to do their jobs more efficiently. But the heart of his message during an employee awards ceremony at Headquarters Wednesday was a reminder of the important role employees play in the successes of their organization.

“Employees of any organization are the heart of the organization,” McClure told the capacity crowd assembled in the auditorium. “Management gets the accolades, but it’s you people who provide the service and make things work for us.

“During the past two years the board and ITD has been in a state of flux with different leaders and different management styles,” he said, referring to the changes in administrative positions. “You guys have done a good job supporting new management… I really want to thank you for your support and patience.”

Employees gathered to honor their colleagues who achieved employment milestones in the last six months of 2007.

The largest “classes” were those who reached 15 years and 25 years of service. Thirteen employees were honored in both groups. Ten employees were honored for achieving the five- 10- and 20-year plateaus.

Dennis Clark, who retired this winter (after the Dec. 31 cutoff) was honored as the most senior member of the group, recording 41 years.

In addition, 10 employees received best wishes following their retirement in the last half of 2007 (see separate story). Milford Miller and Smokey Beaman took a collective 85 years of experience with them (43 and 42, respectively).
