District 4 promotes openings at college career fair

It was difficult to predict the kinds of visitors and what information they were interested in receiving so ITD’s delegation to the College of Southern Idaho (CSI) Career Fair last week had to prepare for everything.

A small group set out from the District 4 offices in Shoshone to find a few good people and to garner some interest in positions currently and soon to be open within the district.

More than 50 businesses and colleges filled the CSI gymnasium for the career fair, which targeted not only students of the two-year college but also local residents who were looking to find a better career. While only a handful of openings currently exist in District 4, there was large number of people interested in finding out how to apply and where to get more information.

“I didn’t really know what to expect when I signed up for the booth,” District 4 public information specialist Nathan Jerke said, “but there really was a lot of interest from all kinds of people – young and old, men and women – for any kind of position.”

Seeking qualified people to fill maintenance and office positions, members of the ITD design section and Twin Falls maintenance facility where stationed at the booth. Most people were interested in the maintenance positions, but the design staff fielded questions from a handful of qualified people about future openings.

And then there were a few people more interested in collecting a pen or a free state map than they were in finding a job.

“We made contact with a lot of people and were able to direct them to the ITD careers Web site. But the success of the fair won’t be measured until we begin seeing applications coming into the department,” Jerke added.
