Nominations accepted for transportation awards

ITD’s Excellence in Transportation award program will formally recognize transportation-related projects from throughout the state during a June 26 ceremony in Boise.

Successful projects will demonstrate innovation, context sensitive solutions, community and public involvement, partnerships and collaboration, quality of user experience and safety, maintenance and operations.

Any company or public agency engaged in transportation-related projects in Idaho is eligible for consideration. Projects must have been completed in the last three calendar years (including the current year). Previously nominated projects can be resubmitted if they were completed during that time period. Past winners are not eligible again.

Two awards will be presented in each of five categories: transportation planning, environmental stewardship, public participation, design and construction.

ITD’s Excellence in Transportation Award program recognizes outstanding initiatives to develop, plan and implement transportation projects throughout the state. A panel of qualified and experienced judges who represent the transportation industry will judge entries.

Applications must be received by 4 p.m., May 27 by the awards coordinator, ITD Headquarters Roadway Design / CAU, P.O. Box 7129, Boise, ID 83707-1129

Criteria

  • Innovation: Describe what innovative engineering, design or construction approaches were used to overcome project challenges and what makes these efforts unique. Describe what types of successes have occurred as a result of this innovative process.
  • Context Sensitive Solutions: Describe any approaches that integrated and balanced community, aesthetic, historic, and environmental value with transportation safety, maintenance, and performance goals.
  • Community and Public Involvement: Describe how this project successfully engaged the community in the planning process and the benefits of the public’s input. How has the community and public involvement process for this project made a positive difference in the community?
  • Partnerships and Collaboration: Describe any partnerships that were formed to facilitate the development and implementation of this project and how these partnerships made a difference. Are there any mechanisms in place to foster the continuation of these partnerships? Were non-traditional groups represented as well, such as those outside the transportation arena?
  • Quality of User Experience: What is the overall enhancement of the transportation system? Does the project address multimodal transportation options including bicycle, pedestrian, and automobile in an effort to integrate transportation?
  • Safety, Maintenance and Operational Factors: Describe any unique or improved procedures involving management/maintenance, litter reduction, community outreach, storm water quality improvements, resource conservation, safety improvement and cost reduction.
