Former district engineer LeRoy Meyer passes away

A highly revered and respected former ITD district engineer Leroy Meyer passed away recently in Boise. He concluded a 38-year career by retiring as District Engineer in District 3.

William LeRoy Meyer of Boise passed away on April 18, 2008, at the age of 72.

LeRoy was born on Sept. 15, 1935 in Glade, Kan. to Merl and Leona Meyer, the older of two sons. At the age of 11, his family moved from Kansas to Meridian, Idaho. LeRoy graduated from Meridian High School in 1953, attended Boise Junior College, and graduated from the University of Idaho in 1959 with a degree in Civil Engineering.

While attending Boise Junior College, he met and married the love of his life, Sharon Bromet. They were married on June 12, 1958. During the next four years, their three children were born. After graduation, LeRoy worked for the Idaho Department of Transportation for 38 years. He ended his career as the District Engineer for District 3.

LeRoy made many cherished and long lasting friendships during this rewarding career.

After retirement, he volunteered hundreds of hours working for Habitat for Humanity and the Assistance League of Boise. LeRoy and Sharon are members of Hillview Methodist Church, where they served as members of the board. LeRoy enjoyed 43 years at the family cabin at Warm Lake. Favorite activities included fishing, hiking, snowmobiling, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Over the years, LeRoy and Sharon enjoyed time in Lincoln City, Ore. with their family where he enjoyed the beach and whale watching. LeRoy is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sharon, and their three children, Steve (June), Andy (Jackie), and Cathy (Bill) Brown.

LeRoy and Sharon are blessed with seven grandchildren, Tiara (Jerod) King, Ryan Meyer, David Meyer, Katie Meyer, Alex Brown, Connor Brown, and Eric Meyer, and one great-grandchild, Landen King. He is also survived by his brother, Mick (Pam) Meyer of Virginia. LeRoy is preceded in death by his parents, Merl and Leona Meyer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Habitat for Humanity, the Assistance League of Boise, or Hillview United Methodist Church.
