Thanks for your valued service, commitment

As I have surveyed the needs of Idaho’s transportation system the past 16 months, it has become clear how important our resources are. Usually when we consider resources, our attention turns to funding. But there is another resource that is essential to the efficient operation of our transportation system…

Each of you.

Unlimited funds would be of little value without the talent, experience and commitment each of you provide. Without a doubt, you are the department’s greatest resource.

As most of you know, Governor Otter has designated next week Public Employee Appreciation Week, a time specifically set aside to acknowledge your efforts and to say thank you. We don’t do that often enough. Sometimes it takes a declaration to remind us of how much you contribute.

On behalf of the transportation board and our executive staff, I want to let you know how much I value your service to the department and the state of Idaho.

I encourage each of you to pause next week, look around at the people you work with and recognize how much they contribute to our success and to a wonderful work environment at ITD. And join with me in saying thanks.

Monday we will introduce a new PerksCard program that entitles you to discounts from a variety of local businesses. It’s provided at no cost to you or to the state and is made possible largely through the vision and persistence of Human Resource Services Manager Mary Harker. Please accept the cards and take advantage of the amenities they provide. They are another way we would like to say thanks.

I also hope you participate in the employee activities organized throughout the week or at later times this spring. Take time to have fun.

You deserve it.
