Green exposition planned May 17, 18 in Boise

Jackie McCloughan, a member of  ITD’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction committee, will participate in a comprehensive two-day Idaho Green Expo in Boise this weekend.

The free expo will showcase environmentally friendly products and services and provides information that will help individuals adopt a healthier more environmentally conscious lifestyle. It begins at 9 a.m. Saturday and runs through 8 p.m. at the Boise Centre on the Grove. It resumes Sunday at 10 a.m. and concludes at 6 p.m.

The goal, according to organizers, is to “improve both the quality of our environment and the quality of our lives.”

It will feature more than 150 exhibitors and more than 60 workshops and seminars on a variety of “green-living” topics, that range from air quality, transportation and “car-free living,” to renewable energy, sustainability, solar energy, energy efficient homes, recycling, alternative energy, water conservation, hazardous waste, community planning and watersheds.

Featured speakers include:

  • Benjamin Gisin, publisher of “Touch the Soil Magazine”
  • Michael Shuman, economist and author of the “Small Mart Revolution”
  • The Rev. Katherine Jesch, director of Environmental Ministry U.U. Ministry for Earth, Portland
  • Rabbi Daniel Fink, Congregation Ahavath Beth Israel, Boise
  • The Rev. Edward Keener. First Congregational United Church of Christ, and
  • Guy Dauncey, author, and environmental consultant, President of the British Columbia Sustainable Energy Assoc.

Among the special events planned are an alternative vehicle display, a “Greening the Grove Concert,” a fashion show, a short film festival and a raffle for a “Greening the Grove project.

The expo will allow visitors to:

  • See dozens of green products and services that are currently available to meet their needs
  • Attendees will learn about organizations helping to affect positive and sustainable change in our region, our country, and around the planet.
  • Attend educational workshops and how-to sessions. Networking opportunities will abound for people looking to work together for change at the local, national, and global level. Meet interesting people who share common values
  • Listen to speakers addressing a wide array of green topics, from the benefits of composting, to how to help your community improve their public transit system, to conserving energy in your home and workplace
  • Spend some time at the Capital City Public Market, meet a few of our local farmers and discover the flavors of locally grown food, while listening to the sounds of local musicians
  • Take in a green film or stop by the Kid’s Zone where the whole family can have some fun learning all about “green”
