ITD 'roadeo' circuit kicks off May 20

They’re not your traditional rodeos – no bareback, saddle bronc or bull riding, no team roping, or steer wrestling. No eight-second counts or barrel racing, or clowns. Just front-end loaders and 10-wheel dump trucks. And some fairly intense competition, nonetheless.

ITD’s annual series of tests challenge the skills and precision of equipment operators, with a berth in the state “roadeo” finals and a possible trip to the national championships in Colorado at stake.

The 2008 schedule begins next week, with District 5 competition at the Pocatello Headquarters on Wednesday. Other roadeos planned this spring include:

  • District 1: Tuesday, May 20, Athol Gravel Pit
  • District 2: Thursday, May 22, Dworshak Dam area near Orofino
  • District 3: Wednesday, May 28, Banks/Garden Valley area
  • District 6: Tuesday, June 3, Irwin Maintenance facility
  • District 4 Thursday, June 5, Twin Falls Maintenance facility
  • State roadeo finals: Tuesday, June 10, Twin Falls Maintenance facility
