Devin Rigby receives Boy Scouts 'Silver Beaver' award
for years of volunteer activity

District 4 Engineer Devin Rigby was active in Boy Scouts long before he had to worry about his own kids in the meetings. For the past quarter century, Rigby has devoted much of his life to helping Idaho youths learn leadership skills through Boy Scouts. For his time, he was honored this spring by the Snake River Council of the Boy Scouts of America with the Silver Beaver award – the highest council-level award bestowed on adult volunteers as a means of recognizing distinguished service to youth on the local level.

Rigby was one of eight Scouting volunteers to receive the Silver Beaver award during the Snake River Council’s 83rd Annual Banquet on March 8 in Twin Falls.

“All of it’s been fun, it’s been good,” Rigby said, “and it doesn’t end here. That’s the exciting part of it.”

Rigby has served as the Snake River Council’s president for the past year and a half, vice president for a year and a half and district chairman for two years over the last half decade. He was involved with district adult training, roundtable and has been a six-time staff member in the adult business management training class Wood Badge.

He got his start in Scouting about the same time as he did at ITD and was active at each stop. He starting by leading Webelo Scouts (10-year old boys) in Pocatello, was a Scout Master in Idaho Falls, a Venturing adviser in Lewiston and has served as an Advance Committee chair and scout master.

In addition, his four sons completed the level of Eagle Scout and his daughter married an Eagle Scout.

“We are a scouting family,” Rigby said. “It’s been a great experience for the whole family.”
