ITD helps state police produce safety video Commercial trucks are complicated machines. Occasionally, even a well-maintained truck will experience a mechanical failure. When all else fails, a truck driver needs to know what to do. In such a situation, runaway truck ramps are the last resort for truck drivers to avoid disaster. The Idaho State Police Multimedia Group, in cooperation with ITD and Swift Transportation, videotaped the use of a runaway truck ramp on the Lewiston Hill on Wednesday morning. ISP’s multimedia group will produce a training video to be distributed nationally to help commercial truck drivers avoid "runaway" incidents. The video also will show when and how to use a runaway truck ramp safely. Swift Transportation, based in Phoenix, operates a terminal in Lewiston. The national trucking firm provided a tractor/trailer combination and driver for the runaway truck ramp demonstration. ISP’s multimedia group is funded by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to provide training for commercial vehicle inspectors throughout North America and is part of the Commercial Vehicle Safety department of the Idaho State Police.
