ITD receives bronze award for alternative commutes
May In Motion competition

ITD was among seven organizations or businesses that earned the bronze level for participation in the annual May In Motion alternative transportation promotion this year.

The annual contest is based on the participation level by individuals, the number of subsidies or incentives offered and the number of internal alternative promotions. Of the 975 qualifying employees at ITD, 56 used alternative modes of transportation to travel to and from work.

During the May promotional period, ITD employees accounted for:

  • 423 carpool trips
  • 284 bus trips
  • 179 vanpool trips
  • 145 bicycle trips
  • 142 walking commutes

Collectively, ITD employees recorded 1,173 trips via alternative modes in May.

In addition to participation level, May In Motion awards also are based on incentives and promotions. ITD offered five subsidies/incentives and six promotions, which would have qualified the department for the highest honor of platinum – if the individual participation had been higher.

Twenty-one employers finished at the platinum level that required 15 percent participation, five subsidies/incentives and five promotions. The gold standard required 10 percent participation and four incentives/subsidies and four promotions while silver required 7 percent participation and three subsidies/incentives and three promotions.

Results were announced at an awards luncheon Thursday.
