ITD to present 2008 Excellence in Transportation
awards at Thursday ceremony in Boise

Several highway projects and the professionals who conceived them will be honored next week during the 2008 Excellence in Transportation Awards program at ITD Headquarters.

The awards ceremony will be Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the auditorium at Headquarters. Refreshments will be available afterward in the lobby.

This year’s nomination process generated 14 award applications in five contest categories:

  • Large project – construction
  • Small project – public participation
  • Environmental stewardship
  • Transportation planning
  • Public participation

Entries were submitted by metropolitan planning organizations, federal agencies and consults. Each of those three produced winning entries.

Display boards, submitted as part of the entry, will be set up in the Headquarters lobby on Thursday. Awards will be presented to winning entrants and certificates will be given to key personnel who participated in the winning projects. ITD staff judged the Excellence in Transportation entries.

ITD Director Pam Lowe and Chief Engineer Steve Hutchinson will present the awards following opening remarks from District 3 Idaho Transportation Board member Monte McClure.

The Excellence in Transportation Awards program acknowledges exceptional initiatives in the development, planning and implementation of transportation projects throughout Idaho.  Awards are bestowed by ITD in recognition of exceptional initiatives in the development, planning and implementation of transportation projects throughout Idaho.

Beginning this year, ITD expands the award program to an annual event rather than the biannual award that has been part of the Project Development Conference. Remarkable contributions are made to Idaho’s transportation systems every year, and ITD leaders decided to recognize those contributors and projects in a more regular manner, explains Erica Stoddard of ITD’s Bridge Section.

ITD employees are welcome to attend the awards presentation.
