AAMVA recognizes greener side of ITD

ITD earned four Outstanding Environmental Leadership Awards in three categories as part of the AAMVA (American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators) Region IV “Green” Contest held for the first time this year.

The purpose of the “Green” contest is to “recognize leadership in environmental sustainability programs among the motor vehicle, law enforcement and traffic safety agencies throughout Region IV.”

Innovation, cost effectiveness and the long-term benefit to employees and customers are rewarded.

The EnviroGuard/ITD Recycling Partnership at Headquarters earned a leadership award in the Energy Resource Conservation category for offering a regularly scheduled portable hazardous waste disposal/recycling site free to the public. The collection site is in the Headquarters parking lot at the northwest corner of the campus.

Idaho Operation Wildflower Program received a leadership award in the Environmental Partnership category for encouraging and supporting native and desirable wildflower growth as a means to promote highway beautification and aid in erosion and weed control.

ITD’s Work at Home and Commuter Incentive programs earned leadership awards in the Climate Change category.

The Work at Home program helps reduce greenhouse emissions and save consumption of natural resources by reducing employee daily commutes to ITD Headquarters. The Commuter Incentive program encourages ITD employees to leave their individual motor vehicles at home and use public modes of transportation and carpools/vanpools as much as possible.
