Public Transportation adds conferencing capabilities

ITD’s Division of Public Transportation announced this week new teleconferencing and web meeting capabilities.

The new services, AT&T Conference Call and AT&T Web Meeting will allow any person who has a telephone and a computer with Internet access to participate in meetings hosted by the division without being physically present in the meeting room, explains Brian M. Shea, the divisions new senior research analyst.

When the division sends out meeting invitations, a toll-free number will be included that enables individuals participate in the audio portion of the meeting. A participant code required for joining the call will be provided.

“Just by dialing the telephone number and then entering the code, you will be able to hear the meeting and have the opportunity to actively ask questions or comment on the proceedings.”

A Web address, meeting number code and another participant code will be provided to persons who want visual participation. “On your computer screen you will be able to see – in real time – the materials or slides being presented,” Shea said.

Depending on software capabilities of the computer used, video participants might need to download and install some new software before attempting to log into the meeting. Instructions will be included in the meeting invitation.

“The state of Idaho is very large with long distances between population centers. Having this capability for everyone to actively participate in meetings that are held miles away will reduce the impact on our highways, save on travel costs and make it easier for those who don’t have the time to travel,” Shea said.

“Our expectation is that these new services will greatly facilitate and help enable all of our efforts to improve mobility for all citizens.”
