2007 collision report to be presented to board

Representatives from ITD’s Office of Highway Operations and Safety will summarize the recently released Idaho Traffic Crashes 2007 Report for members of the ITD board when they meet in Rigby next week.

The business meeting will be in the District 6 office, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. Board members will tour district projects the following day.

The report on crashes in 2007 is a handy reference for information about traffic safety issues in Idaho. It provides data of Idaho’s traffic crash problem and illustrates progress being made. The Highway Safety Improvement Program and the Highway Safety Performance Plan have been developed to reduce the number of traffic-related deaths. The goal is to reduce those deaths from 252 in 2007 to 168 or fewer by 2012.

The board will review the draft Idaho Transportation Department Performance Measurement Report before submission of the final report to the Division of Financial Management by Sept. 3. Both efficiency and customer service are highlighted in the report. The report also includes an overview on the department, including the core functions outlined in Idaho Code, and revenues and expenditures.

Some of the “profile of cases managed and/or key services provided” data for 2007/2008 includes:

  • total number of contracts awarded for highway construction projects – 81
  • total dollar value of those highway construction projects – $171.2 million
  • number of counties receiving public transportation services – 34
  • number of vehicles registered – 1,594,223
  • number of driver’s licenses in force in the state – 1,027,502
  • number of vendor payments processed – 55,130

Summary of FY08 out-of-state travel
The annual report on out-of-state travel to be presented to the board indicates that in FY08, approximately 308 out-of-state trips were made. Expenditures for those trips was $272,813, which is a significant savings from the $410,355 budgeted. Additionally, 62 trips were taken where a third party paid for the expenses.

Annual report on performance measures on contracts and procurements
Business and Support Management will submit its annual report on performance measures on contracts and procurements for the board’s review. In FY08, 24,454 purchase orders were processed, representing a total of $67,421,400. The number increased 3.4 percent from the previous fiscal year. The section also processed 44 professional services agreements in the amount of $1,010,613, and 103 contracts in the amount of $13,106,140.

Tour of District 6
Thursday the board will tour the greater Idaho Falls area. Board members and ITD staff will begin by meeting with local officials. They will follow with visits to various projects in the area. After touring the Regional Public Transportation Authority’s new facility, the tour will conclude at the Idaho Falls Airport.
