District 3 communications specialist chosen
to manage ITD's Governmental Affairs office

Mollie McCarty, who has represented District 3 as a Public Affairs Specialist the past decade, was selected this week to be ITD’s Governmental Affairs Program Manager, effective immediately.

In her new position, McCarty will serve as the department’s liaison to legislators and other elected officials on transportation policy issues. She will report to Director Pam Lowe and Deputy Director Scott Stokes, and will supervise a staff of two – Tim Greeley and Management Assistant Linda Emry.

She will play an integral role in the legislative process and in interactions with local elected officials.

"Mollie brings unique talents, abilities and experience to the position," said ITD DIrector Pam Lowe.
"Her understanding of the department and her ability to communicate effectively with diverse interest groups are tremendous assets."

McCarty brought an extensive background in broadcast media and public relations to the department when she arrived in September 1998. As a member of the Communications staff, she was the primary spokesman for District 3 on southwest Idaho projects. Among those projects were the first and second construction stages of the WYE Interchange in Boise and most recently expansion of I-84 from Caldwell to Meridian.

Before coming to ITD she managed public relations projects at Elgin Syferd Drake, one of Idaho’s leading advertising agencies (now Drake-Cooper). She also worked in television news broadcasting for 10 years, starting as a reporter and advancing to anchor.

Her last seven years were in Boise at CBS affiliate KBCI-TV.

She earned a degree in communications from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Wash., with a broadcast emphasis.

McCarty will work closely with Mary Detmar, who retired as Manager of Budget, Policy and Intergovernmental Relations in 2003. Detmar returned to the department to serve an interim and transitional role after the section was restructured earlier this summer. Those duties should conclude in December.
