TRB program officer to visit with ITD staff
The Transportation Research Board, part of the National Academy of Sciences, will send a representative to Idaho next week to review ITD’s research program.
Peter Shaw, a senior program officer for TRB, works in the public transportation area, explains Ned Parrish, manager of ITD’s research office. Shaw also has expertise in planning, finance and the environment.
TRB technical staff conduct field visits to talk with administrators and professional staff in all of the state transportation departments, Parrish explains. They also visit academic and research institutions and other transportation-related agencies and organizations to gather and exchange information about current research and best practices.
The field visits serve four purposes, Parrish says.
-
To identify specific problems and issues of importance to state departments of transportation and other transportation agencies and organizations
-
To offer assistance and information that can help in addressing the problems and issues
-
To identify topics and emerging issues that may be appropriate for TRB to address in the future, in its continuing efforts to support the needs of sponsors and the broader transportation community, and
-
To assess the quality and value of services currently being provided by TRB and identify other activities or services that may help TRB better serve its sponsors and other constituencies
