Supplemental life option available to employees

As a benefited state employee, you have a free basic life insurance policy that is worth your annual salary  (minimum of $20,000). This plan is underwritten by The Principal Financial Group and is administered by The State of Idaho Office of Group Insurance.

Along with this policy, you have an option to apply for two separate supplemental insurance policies.  The first one is a direct supplement to the basic plan.  This one is worth an additional annual salary (minimum of $20,000.00).  The cost is based on your age and annual salary.  The enrollment for this option is only available upon hire.  However, a health statement may be submitted for consideration.

The second supplemental option is The NCPERS Voluntary Group Life Plan.  It is underwritten by the Prudential Insurance Company of America and is administered by American Administrative Group, Inc.

This insurance gives you the opportunity to purchase term life insurance with no medical evidence requirements. The monthly cost remains the same regardless of your age ($16 a month).

Please review the attached document if you are interested.  The last page is the enrollment form.  Please complete and return to your District Business office if you are a district employee or Human Resources if you work in headquarters.  You have until November 30, 2008 to enroll in this Voluntary Group Life Plan.

Remember, if you choose to decline enrollment you will not be able to enroll until the next open enrollment period next fall.   You do not have to reenroll if you are currently on the plan.

This is the life insurance plan that you can continue after you retire from state service at no extra cost.

For those of you who are currently enrolled in older plans that cost $6, $9 and $12 a month, this is not an opportunity to switch to another plan.

Frequently asked questions:
