ITD joins state, national cyber security campaign

ITD joins other state agencies in observing national Cyber Security Awareness month in October, promoting safety and security when using the Internet and e-mail.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Cyber Security Division and the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center sponsor the observance nationally as a way to promote consistent cyber security awareness across all states. The Idaho Department of Administration leads the state’s participation, explained ITD Cyber Security Officer Forrest Anderson.

Activities are planned throughout the month, including a Computer Security Awareness Symposium at the University of Idaho last week, formal presentations in Boise and a cyber security awareness carnival at Boise State University Monday (Oct. 20).

Information about Idaho’s efforts to promote cyber security is available at: http://www.idaho.gov/cyber/  Internet users can learn about good online habits, identity theft, online sexual predators, Internet fraud and “phishing” scams as well as tips for children, teenagers, business owners/operators and educators.
