Headquarters to honor employees for years of service

The Idaho Transportation Board and employees at Headquarters will honor colleagues next week who have reached career milestones, including nine veteran employees who retired during the first half of 2008.

The service awards will be presented as part of the transportation board’s Thursday (Nov. 20) meeting in the Headquarters auditorium. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. Refreshments, provided by the employee organization DOROLCO, will follow in the lobby. District 1 board member Jim Coleman will congratulate the employees on behalf of his colleagues.

Awards will be presented to 69 employees who have reached plateaus ranging from five to 40 years. Those who have reached 15 or 20 years of state employment constitute nearly half of the longevity awards. Fifteen employees completed 15 years of service and 13 have completed 20 years.

Eight employees surpassed the 35-year mark, including Terry McAdams and Lotwick Reese who have worked for the state more than 40 years.

ITD will find it difficult to the fill the vacuum of expertise and knowledge created by retirements in early 2008. The nine employees collectively represent 298 years of service, an average of more than 33 years per retiree. Three of the retirees – Steven Mample, Dennis Clark and David Turner, leave behind professional legacies of more than 40 years.

Also as part of the award ceremony, Matthew Moore, administrator of the Division of Transportation Planning, will present a plaque honoring ITD’s Scenic Byways Web site. Program coordinator Garry Young will accept the award, originally announced during the National Transportation Public Affairs Workshop in Nashville last summer.

The award is for a Web site produced in collaboration with a consultant.

Headquarters employees are encouraged to attend the service awards ceremony to support their colleagues and recognize their accomplishments. A standing-room-only crowd usually turns out. Please remember, however, the board will be conducting regular business before and after the awards presentation.
