Finest attributes of civil service

Doral Hoff
Idaho Transportation Department

In 2005, I moved to Orogrande, Idaho, permanently. Since moving to Idaho, I have observed the hard work and dedicated service that the road crew, stationed at Golden, Idaho, has provided to this community.

On numerous occasions I have observed lead worker Jim Johnson, heavy equipment and truck operator Cathryn Swinney and foreman Dave Stephenson, at all hours of the day and night, during absolutely miserable weather conditions, perform their duties in an outstanding manner.

They have kept Idaho State Route 14 open during blizzards, rockslides, mudflows and landslides. I have seen them assist stranded motorists and get civilian vehicles safely through hazardous road conditions. Because of their efforts and dedication to duty, in keeping Idaho 14 open during periods of severe weather, they were singularly responsible for ensuring that sick and elderly individuals were able to get to the hospital in Grangeville, Idaho, and critical doctor’s appointments.

I personally know of several individuals who would not have been able to keep their chemotherapy appointments if they had not kept Idaho 14 open and passable during severe weather conditions.

By their performance of duty, they have brought credit upon themselves, you, their supervisor, and the Idaho Transportation Department. By their hard work and dedication, they have demonstrated the finest attributes of civil service. Please extend my appreciation, and that of many of my neighbors, for their dedication and service to the public.
