On behalf of ITD administrative team
have a wonderful holiday
As we approach the end of 2008, we have an opportunity to reflect on our many accomplishments of the past year and prepare for new challenges that 2009 will bring.
I remain optimistic that we are slowly recovering from an economic downturn that stifled the national transportation industry and wreaked havoc on state government budgets across the country. We have already seen a tremendous drop in the price of gasoline, record drops in interest rates and a more stable stock market. Those are good signs.
Idaho’s Legislature will have a full plate when it convenes next month. Transportation funding will be at the heart of the discussion, along with reduced revenue for state budgets. I am hopeful that our citizen legislators will find solutions that will keep Idaho moving forward. I believe better days are not very far away.
Each of you continues to demonstrate a remarkable commitment to your profession, to accomplishing much with little, and taking great pride in the results. For that, we – the transportation board and ITD’s administrative team – are very grateful. In my frequent trips across the state, I am constantly impressed by your spirit of cooperation and your efforts to keep our service-oriented mission at the forefront.
You are the heart and soul of Idaho’s transportation system, and you will play an important role in the state’s economic recovery. Yes, we will face some new challenges in the coming year, but they present an opportunity for growth and improvement. I look forward to making that journey with you.
I know I speak for ITD’s entire leadership team in wishing you and your families the very best this holiday season. If you are traveling, please be careful; enjoy the trip and arrive safely. Some of you may be pressed into extra service, keeping our highways clear and passable. We appreciate the sacrifices you make to keep us safe.
May each of you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year.
Pam Lowe,
Director, ITD
