Softball tournaments planned for state teams
Based on the resounding success of two softball tournaments for state employees the past year, the Idaho Department of Lands is organizing two sequels for 2009 – a spring tournament on May 30 and a fall tournament on Sept. 5.
The Saturday co-ed tournaments will consist of 2-4 games and will be scheduled for the Willow Lane Athletic Complex in Boise. The tournament tentatively will begin around 7:30 a.m. and continue until early evening.
Participation will be open to all state employees. The team that goes through the tournament bracket undefeated will be crowned champion and will take home a perennial plaque to keep until the next tournament. Members of the championship team will receive T-shirts.
The Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections “Delinquents” team is the reigning champion.
Teams must provide their own numbered uniforms or shirts and will consist of an equal number of men and women (ideally 12 members; reserves are optional.) One 5 X 7 team photograph will be provided along with one photo CD per team.
“Because we need to reserve the fields at the beginning of the year with the City of Boise Parks and Recreation Department, if you are interested, please contact Tony Pirc as soon as possible,” organizers request. He can be reached at the Idaho Department of Lands, (208) 334-0256 or by e-mail at tpirc@idl.idaho.gov. Responses are needed no later than Friday, Jan. 16.
ITD fielded two teams for last year’s tournaments and narrowly missed finishing first.
