Rigby commends District 4 staff for commitment

Devin Rigby,
District 4 Engineer
As we look back over the past year as usual it was a mixed bag of experiences.  Central to those experiences was the greatest resource that the department has – our employees.

One important thing to remember is that a great foundation was established by those that were here before us and we have a great responsibility to maintain and improve that legacy. This point was brought home when we were able to recognize a past employee by naming the street to the  Hailey Maintenance compound after past foreman Les Bartholomew.

We had several friends that left the department either through retirement or on to other opportunities and we wish them well and want to let them know that they will be missed.  Sadder yet are those friends and colleges that passed on.  We truly do miss them and want to express our sympathies to their families.

I believe that the best way to measure the success of a year is by the service provided and this past year has been stellar. Two volunteer efforts seem to stand out, the Relay for Life participants and the annual Christmas raffle which respectively raised $3,850 and $2,900.

Individual employees hours in each of our communities and through our jobs we have been able to provide projects and services that are central to this valleys way of life.  With the fear that I will leave someone out I would like to recognize some of those projects and services.

Although construction was a little slow we were still able to provide safety improvements and several intersection and pavement preservation projects in several areas, we completed design and are prepared for a massive construction year this next summer and provided superb service for the
public through maintenance crews, sign crews and bridge and building.

In closing I want to recognize those employees that sacrificed their Christmas for the public, and as an “engineer” the best way I know how to illustrate this is through numbers. On December 24 we had 73 employees work 562 hours; on the 25 we had 83 employees work 913 hours; and on the 26th there were 78 employees working 848 hours for a total of 89 different employees working 2,323 hours. These numbers simply show the quiet dedication of all ITD District 4 employees.

As I stated at the Christmas party, I am honored to be part of this district and feel privileged to represent you and brag about your skills, your talents and more than anything your dedication and commitment to serving the public.

Thanks for all you do.
