Meetings focus on bicycle/pedestrian mobility

Meetings are scheduled in Lewiston and Moscow Tuesday (Jan. 27) as part of a series of bicycle and pedestrian mobility discussions in support of the ongoing statewide bicycle and pedestrian mobility survey.

Responses will help identify a preferred vision for the non-motorized mobility environment statewide, according to Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator Mark McNeese. Individuals interested in impacting the future of bicycle and pedestrian mobility are invited to participate in the discussions and help formulate a local- regional- and state-level plan.

Tuesday's forum will be from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Community Center multi-purpose room, 1424 Main St. An afternoon session will follow in Moscow from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the City Hall Council Chambers, 206 E. 3rd Street, second floor. McNeese will conclude the northern Idaho trip with a Thursday meeting in Coeur d'Alene. It will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the City Hall's old council chamber, 710 E. Mullen Ave. A meeting also is planned with a Sandpoint group later this week.

The discussions will be held in an open-house style forum, meaning that attendance for the entire block of time is not necessary.

"Once we get the vision in place, then we'll start working on the building blocks that will need to exist to get it done," McNeese said. The picture we envision and then proceed to paint will be inherited by our children, so we need to make sure we get it right."

Similar discussions are planned in northern Idaho next week.

An online survey went live on Dec. 29 and will be active through the end of January. More than 1,850 survey responses have been cataloged so far throughout the state.
