ETS announces plan to maintain MPC computers

As you are all most likely aware by now, MPC computers announce recently that it has ceased all business operations.  The impact of this is that there will be no sales, support or service available from MPC.

ITD has a significant installed base of MPC laptops and PCs.  Many of these machines were still under a maintenance and/or warranty agreement with MPC.  Unfortunately, these maintenance and warranty agreements will not be honored by MPC.

In an effort to continue to provide the best possible service to our ITD customers, the Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) service center will do the following:

  • We will stockpile retired/replaced MPC computers to make used replacement parts available.
  • We will maintain a small stock of new replacement parts (specifically power supplies), to allow quick turnaround on MPC PC/laptop repairs. As these parts are used, we will contact the appropriate business unit to purchase a replacement for stock.
  • We will continue to develop relationships with parts suppliers so that repairs can be facilitated as quickly as possible. Please be aware that any costs for repair or replacement parts, will be passed along to the appropriate Business Unit.
  • ETS Service Center staff will make a recommendation that a MPC PC/laptop be replaced, if time and material costs would make it economically unwise to repair a machine. This will be done on case-by-case basis.
  • Any MPC PC/laptop that has been in service for more than three years should be replaced when any failure occurs. It is recommended that each business unit anticipate that MPC PCs/laptops more than three years of age may need to be replaced, especially those in mission-critical locations, and budget accordingly.

We are aware that this issue will cause some delays and additional expense for all of us. We are however committed to making this as painless as possible for all of our Customers. We ask for your patience and cooperation going forward.

Please direct all questions and concerns to the ETS Service Desk at 334-8175.

Thank you for your support,
ETS service center
