ITD presents response on performance audit
to members of Joint Legislative Oversight Committee
Representatives of the Office of Performance Evaluation presented findings from their audit of the transportation department to members of the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee Monday.
The comprehensive review focused on department revenue, performance measures, the need for financial, highway and bridge management systems and GARVEE funding.
“I want to thank the OPE staff and consultants for investing considerable time and effort in conducting the performance audit,” said Idaho Transportation Board Chairman Darrell V Manning. “We support the use of performance audits as an important tool for improving state government and its agencies.”
ITD Director Pamela Lowe expressed her appreciation to auditors for their recognition and acknowledgment of the department’s efficiency efforts. “I regard this report’s recommendations as a continuation of the department’s ongoing commitment to efficiency,” she said.
Manning said the transportation board and ITD concur with the report’s conclusions. The department presented a formal response, divided into six broad themes:
-
Current transportation funding
-
Statewide strategy for capital improvements and operations
-
The department’s performance measures
-
Necessary systems, processes and tools to run a more cost-effective highway program
-
The department’s financial system
-
GARVEE financial planning
