ITD director to speak at Women in Construction banquet

ITD Director Pam Lowe will speak at an awards and appreciation dinner hosted by the Boise chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Owyhee Plaza Hotel.

The event is part of “Women in Construction Week,” March 1-7, a nationwide celebration for more than 5,500 NAWIC members. NAWIC activities help raise awareness of the opportunities the construction industry holds for potential employees and highlight women as “a visible, growing face in the industry.”

Lowe will share with the group her career journey and how she achieved the highest-ranking position at ITD, said Lisa Losness, with the Office of Highway Operations and Safety and a Boise NAWIC chapter officer.

NAWIC is an international association that promotes and supports the advancement and employment of women in the construction industry. Founded in Fort Worth, Texas, the 51-year-old association maintains 200 chapters across the United States and Canada.

Membership represents a broad range of construction-related occupations such as architects, builders, developers, educators, engineers, government employees, interior designers, professional associates, project managers, students, subcontractors, suppliers, surveyors and trades people.

For more information about the dinner or NAWIC, contact Losness at (208) 334-8103 or e-mail her at Lisa.Losness@itd.idaho.gov.  The Boise chapter Web site is located at www.nawicboise.org.
