Headquarters honors employees for service

Employees will assemble at Headquarters Thursday to offer a collective congratulations to their colleagues who reached employee milestones in the last six months of 2008. The semi-annual service awards presentation is scheduled for 10 a.m. as the last item on the Idaho Transportation Board’s monthly meeting in Boise.

Nearly half of the 45 employees to be honored have reached 10 or 20 years of service to the state. Eleven will be honored for achieving a decade of service and 11 others will mark two decades. Six employees surpassed 35 years of state service.

A relatively large number of employees logged the final day of their careers during the last half of 2008, led by Ray Keller who retired after 38 years. Marty Montgomery and Mark Young also concluded three decades of service, 32 years and 30 years, respectively.

The 13 retirees accounted for a cumulative 302 years of service, or an average of 23.2 years each.

Transportation Board vice-chairman Bruce Sweeney of Lewiston will offer introductory remarks before turning the program over to Randy Kyrias, administrator of the Division of Public Transportation, who will serve as master of ceremonies.

The awards presentation will begin with special recognition for Dan Everhart of the Environmental Section at Headquarters.  Sue Sullivan, manager of the Environmental Section, will join Janet L. Gallimore, executive director of the Idaho Historical Society, in presenting an award for outstanding service.

Everhart organized a conference on preserving historic architecture last year that attracted participants from throughout the Northwest and featured nationally renowned panelists.

Employees are encouraged to go to the auditorium early because seating is limited, but they are asked to remember the board meeting might still be in progress.

A reception will follow the awards presentation in the Headquarters Lobby.
