Engineer of the Year Award

Monica Crider, P.E.
Assistant Roadway Design Engineer
ITD Division of Highways

Award criteria: An engineer who demonstrates technical or managerial excellence and makes fundamental and long-term positive impacts within the transportation industry

Monica is known for her ability to successfully undertake additional management roles by using her leadership skills to the fullest extent possible. She began her ITD career as an Engineer-in-Training in 2000 and quickly became an outstanding leader at the department.

She manages the Consultant Administration Unit, PS&E areas, and coordinates projects within several ITD districts. She is an expert at multi-tasking, thinking outside the box to overcome challenges, supporting her employees and peers, and in finding time to promote engineering and transportation in the community.

Engineering involvement:

  • Chairman of the 2009 Project Development Conference
  • Chairman for the working group on Alternative Project Delivery as a potential future contracting method for ITD
  • Co-leads ITD/Federal Highway Administration teams, including Value Engineering to bring ideas to the forefront of the development process with the intent of saving construction funds
  • Committed to being a role model and mentor to her employees and peers
  • Promotes engineering to younger generations: participates in AASHTO’s Transportation in Civil Engineering (TRAC) outreach program at Columbia High School in Nampa and attends classes to discuss bridges, planning and zoning, and transportation policy issues with students
