Want to ride in the Roadeo? Check this year's schedule

If you can play basketball with a front-end loader or thread the eye of a needle with a 10-wheel dump truck ITD has a place for you – the 2009 ITD Roadeo.

The annual series tests the knowledge and driving skills of ITD employees in each district, leading to the state Roadeo finals and two berths in the national finale in Colorado.

The series begins May 13 with the District 4 Roadeo at the Twin Falls maintenance yard. Other district events include:

District 1, Tuesday, May 19, Athol Gravel Pit (one mile south of Athol on U.S. 95)
District 2, Thursday, May 21, Dworshak Dam, maintenance facility near Orofino
District 3, Tuesday, June 9, Garden Valley maintenance facility
District 6, Tuesday, June 2, location to be determined
District 5, Thursday, June 4, Headquarters complex, Pocatello
State Roadeo, Thursday, June 11, District 5

District 4’s Pete McGuire is the defending state Roadeo champion, finishing just 10 points ahead of Mike Allen of District 2 last summer. Both earned trips to Estes Park, Colo., and the APWA (American Public Works Association) Snow & Ice Conference. Twenty-four equipment operators (including six foremen) competed in the Idaho finals last year.
