Rick Carpenter, Sean Sargent take top two spots at state
Rick Carpenter and Sean Sargent qualified for the national finals of the 2009 Western Snow and Ice Conference by claiming first and second place respectively in overall scoring at the state ITD Roadeo recently. Unfortunately, budget restraints and travel limitations might prevent them from competing at the annual event. Sean entered the June 11 state roadeo as the top finisher in the District 2 this year. Rick finished third at the District 6 roadeo, but emerged nearly 100 points ahead of Sargent to claim the 2009 state title with 2,813 points. Sargent had a score of 2,720, and foreman David Dansereau of District 3 took third with 2,715. A perfect score would have been 3,100 points, explains state roadeo coordinator Rex Hufford. The annual event tests truck and loader driving skills and diagnostics (trouble-shooting) skills. Carpenter and Sargent unseated (literally) Pete McGuire of District 4 and Mike Allen of District 2 to earn spots at the Western Snow Fighters competition, which attracts drivers from throughout the country. "I would like to thank all of the judges, cooks, volunteers and contestants for a great 2009 truck roadeo season," Hufford said. "A special thank-you goes out to District 5 for the great job they did hosting the state competition." State competition 1. Rick Carpenter, District 6, 2,813 points
