May In Motion – 2009
ITD to be honored for alternative commutes

ITD employees are making a positive difference in efforts to improve the Treasure Valley’s air quality and reduce congestion by choosing alternative transportation to reach their work site.

Employees stepped up ITD’s participation in this year’s May In Motion program that promotes the use of public transportation, van and carpools, bicycles and walking.

“Last year we achieved the bronze level of participation, and this year we achieved the silver level,” explains ITD’s Main In Motion coordinator Judy Davis.

Records kept for May commutes indicate that 55 employees participated, logging a total of 273 bicycle trips, 48 bus trips, 89 walking trips, 275 vanpool trips and a “whopping” 523 carpool trips. (A trip is defined as one way to or from work.)

An ITD representative will be among the Treasure Valley organizations and businesses attending an awards luncheon to honor participation.

For reaching the “silver” level, ITD will receive an awards package with an estimated value of about $4,000, Davis says. It includes:

  • Recognition at the Alternative Transportation Champion awards luncheon
  • Press releases and media interviews
  • Recognition on bus exteriors and advertisements, and
  • Recognition on two half-page ads in the Idaho Statesman’s business section
