Barrel sculptor faces court date
A little bit of humor can go a long way; a little creativity also can go along way. Combine the two and you can go even farther – from artist to criminal.
A 21-year-old North Carolina man recently created an eye-catching sculpture by reshaping construction barrels and putting them back on the side of the highway in a construction zone. The “barrel monster” captured a lot of attention, including that of the Raleigh, N.C. Police Department.
Officers arrested and charged Joseph Carnevale with misdemeanor larceny for allegedly building his orange monster from materials stolen from a construction site. The warrant claims he “destroyed three road blocking barrels by cutting and screwing them together to form a statue.”
Police estimate Carnevale’s action resulted in $360 in damages to Hamlett Associates, the North Carolina construction company that owned the barrels. The accused is scheduled for a court appearance in WakeCounty on July 21.
