Employees to complete new online course
that explains ITD policy on respectful workplace

ITD is committed to maintaining a healthy, respectful, professional workplace that enables employees the freedom to do their jobs in a safe and respectful work environment. That commitment is part of the department’s culture and policy.

According to department policy, all employees have the right to work in an environment that is free from harassment based on race, color, gender, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, age, disability, veteran or marital status.

Human Resource Services is introducing a new online class that reinforces the emphasis on a harassment-free work environment. The course is being rolled out in stages to ease the impact on technology services, explains Michelle George, Human Resources Specialist, Senior.

Access to the online course was extended this week to employees in District 1; other districts and Headquarters will follow.

The program will train employees on the nature of harassment, what is and is not acceptable in the workplace and educate employees about how to use department policies and procedures to address any concerns that arise.

“Employees will gain information about their responsibilities, while developing the skills and awareness needed to ensure a respectful environment,” George says.

Topics include defining harassment, laws and risks, investigations, retaliation, and creating a harassment-free workplace. “The department's goal is to provide employees a more productive and tolerant workplace by following the guidelines explained in this program,” George adds.

During the presentation, each employee will electronically confirm his or her understanding of ITD's policy on harassment in the workplace. Completion of the course will be included in personnel records as part of an employee’s training profile.

Enterprise Technology Services, beta testers, Human Resource Development and technical personnel in the districts were instrumental in putting the course together and making it available on the Web, George says.

The online session will take approximately 30 minutes and require a set of speakers or headphones to hear verbal instructions.  All employees are required to complete the online program and confirm their understanding of the content within seven days of being notified by e-mail that it is available to their respective sections.

Human Resources will be notified automatically when employees complete the online course.

Anyone who has questions about the course or has difficulties accessing it when it becomes available should contact George at (208) 334-8845 or e-mail her at Michelle.George@itd.idaho.gov
