You light up my life
Southwest Idaho residents enjoyed an unrivaled natural light show on Aug. 5 – the second of a four-day midsummer storm that brought countless lightning strikes, blustery winds and uncharacteristic rainfall.
ITD’s Cecil Dallman, Idaho City maintenance foreman, captured the spectacle in the sky from a distance, showing the intensity of the storm over Boise. He photographed the strikes from Federal Way and Idaho 21.
The National Weather Service reported more than 500 lightning strikes on Wednesday; other observers put the count at more than 1,600 over the course of a couple of hours. Despite the number of lightning strikes, the region escaped with no major wildfires.
