ITD updates Public Records Handbook

ITD’s Business and Support Management section recently published a revision to the department’s extensive Public Records Handbook. The 38-page publication outlines the Idaho Public Records Law, requirements for responding to requests and access to the department’s records.

“This handbook brings together relevant portions of Idaho Code, the Idaho Public Records Law Manual (published by the Office of the Attorney General) and department policies and procedures relating to public access to records maintained by the department,” according to the handbook introduction.

Major chapters include:

  • Idaho Public Records Request Procedures
  • Availability and Fees for Documents
  • Location of Records
  • Idaho Public Records Law
  • Idaho Public Records Under Motor Vehicle Law, and
  • Board and Administrative Policies

Idaho law grants every person the ”right to access, examine and copy any public record of the state of Idaho.” Records include any writing containing information related to the conduct or administration of the public’s business by any state or local agency. Specific requirements are in place for records maintained by the Division of Motor Vehicles.

The h
andbook is available on ITD’s Intranet site in pdf (portable document format) for downloading: http://intranet/admin_services/BSM/records_management/index_records_management.htm and choose Public Records Handbook.
