ITD, partners demonstrate proper
child car seat safety installation

In advance of Child Passenger Safety Week this week,, ITD will offer special child car safety seat demonstrations for media and public.

Two certified safety technicians from Safe Kids Treasure Valley – Alissa McKinley and Jeanette Rich – were on hand in Boise Friday (Sept. 11) to go through the steps for properly installing child car seats and booster seats. They also provide guidelines for determining which restraint system is best suited to protect children based on the child’s age and size.

Starting this Saturday, free child seat safety inspections will be offered to the public at the following locations in the Treasure Valley:

• Monday, Sept. 14: St. Luke's Regional Medical Center, Boise (2 p.m. - 6 p.m.)
• Monday, Sept. 14: St. Luke's Regional Medical Center, Meridian (2 p.m. - 6 p.m.)
• Thursday, Sept. 17: St. Luke's Regional Medical Center, Boise (2 p.m .- 6 p.m.)
• Thursday, Sept. 17: St. Luke's Regional Medical Center, Meridian (2 p.m. - 6 p.m.)

Nationwide, motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death for children, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) statistics.

Idaho's Child Passenger Safety Law requires that all children six years of age or younger be properly secured in an appropriate child safety restraint.
